MAKE UP STARTER KIT FOR BEGINNERS

Monday, March 14, 2016

Many years ago when I first started experimenting with Make Up, I didn't have anyone to teach me or advise me on the products that are worth to buy.
Being a student at around 14, 15 years old, I didn't have much money. What I needed were affordable products that worked. And if you're wondering, no. Expensive high end make up products are not always better than the ones you find at drugstores.

Here are a few of my recommendations on how to build your own Make Up Starter Kit, I hope you guys find this useful!

Base
Maybelline White Super Fresh CC Cream - This CC Cream claims to cover, conceal and correct your skin tone. Maybelline has been one of my long-term favourite brands for their huge range of products that are not only pocket-friendly, they are also readily available. You can get it at your Watsons or Guardian super easily. I'm recommending this base for a light-medium all over slightly dewy coverage, and I found that it sets best with the next product i'm gonna be talking about, the Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder.

Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder - This compact powder can be used as a foundation itself, or as a setting powder like how i would use it. Using a huge fluffy brush, swirl it around and tap off the excess before applying it all over in circular motions. I like this compact for its huge mirror, and I love how it keeps me matte, but not too flat throughout the day.

Face

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer / Clio Kill Cover Concealer I couldn't narrow it down to just one so I included both! One is Maybelline, yes again, and another is a korean brand, Clio. It depends on what kind of concealer you're looking for, and what you are looking to use it for. Concealer can be used for many different uses, brightening, concealing your under eyes, covering blemishes or zits etc. After trying out so many different brands, I would recommend Maybelline Instant Age Rewind for undereye concealing and brightening the whole face. Clio's Kill Cover Concealer on the other hand, is a VERY full coverage concealer that I would recommend for covering blemishes. Because of it's thicker texture, it wouldn't run around as much.

NYX Powdered Blush - I'm sure most of you have heard of the American brand, NYX. It's famous for bringing us really pigmented and good make up products at affordable prices. I've been a fan of NYX's powdered blushes for many years and they offer a wide range of shades for different occasions.

Lips
Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick - Lipsticks are the same, i'm a hoarder. But if I had to recommend, i'll recommend one of my favorite nude, MLBB shades. The Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in the shade Rose is perfect. With a really creamy and buttery texture, you can't go wrong. The only downside is that it doesn't last that well throughout the day, so bring it with you to touch up!

Eyes
Maybelline The Nudes Palette - A good starter for eyeshadow will be netural colors. A palette that encompasses colors that are suitable for everyday wear. But this palette offers more than that, and that's why I've been bringing this with me everywhere I go instead of some high end ones I own. This palette contain so many shades that you can have so many uses out of it as well! use the darker shades to fill in your brows, use the black as a softer eyeliner, or the light brown shade as a contour.

Kiss Me Heroine Make Impact Liquid Eyeliner - I loveeeee Heroine Make's eyeliner and have recommended it to so many of my friends and readers over these years. I love it for being so intensely black, and INCREDIBLY waterproof and smudge proof.  Another one I've been loving is the KATE Tokyo Memory Liner as well, they both are practically the same !

Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara - For some reason, I find that asian mascaras are a lot more effective on my short, asian lashes. This mascara contains little fibres that help extend and lengthen lashes, making them longer and fuller without bringing too much clumps. This is also very waterproof, almost irritating to remove. But it can be a good or bad thing, depending on how you see it!

Yay, that's it from me! I hope you guys enjoy this post and found it useful.
For all of you just starting out with make up, practise makes perfect! Don't give up and you're definitely get the hang of it in no time.

Love,

  1. Hi, I'd like to ask if the Kiss Me Heroine Make Impact Liquid Eyeliner is oilproof? I have really oily eyelids and I remember an eyeliner from this brand fading with just a rub of my fingers at the end of the day, and it wasn't a very intense black to begin with

    1. Hello! I don't have oily eyelids so i can't personally vouch that it is oilproof. But it's actually one of the strongest and toughest liquid liner I have tried and heard about in the market. Perhaps you can try searching for other, more in-depth reviews on this product to see if everyone feels the same.

Based on my personal experience with Kiss Me Heroine Make Liners, they have been the most intense black eyeliners i've ever tried. Not kidding! Although there was one, out of the 30 ive gone through that was a little faulty and came out not as opaque as the rest. Perhaps you just got a bad one, or the tester was half-dried up already when you tested it.

That said, i'm not sponsored by them, and neither have I worked with them for their eyeliners before, just in case you think im crazy for selling it so hard. HAHA! Hahah i genuinely enjoy it that's why!

  3. Hi! For the Instant Age Rewind Concealer, what shade do you use? I'm a Laneige BB Cushion N21 shade, and N21 for most other BB cushions as well :) And for The Nudes palette, how does it fare in terms of fall out / colour pickup by brushes / pigmentation?

  4. Hey! I use the instant age rewind as an under eye brightener so I like to go with the fairest shade :) also for The Nudes palette, the eyeshadow pigmentation is very decent! Of course it is not as high end as other shadows like Urban Decay or Too Faced, but for the price and for someone starting out with make up, it is a good all rounded palette :)
