Majulah Singapura Our Golden Jubilee | National Day Parade 2015

Friday, May 15, 2015

Every year since I was a little girl, I always looked forward to the 9th of August. Not only because of the school holiday (hehe), but also because my family and I would be crowding around the television at home, watching the National Day parade together. It is also the day I feel the most patriotic and the proudest to call myself a Singaporean especially when we recap on how far we have come as a nation since the very start.

This year, is Singapore's 50th Birthday - A golden milestone that we have all been anticipating for a long long time. SG50 should be something very familiar to all people living in Singapore, because this year, we are making it EXTRA big and the celebration exciting.
A celebration that we have never seen before.

I was very privileged to be chosen as one of the social media influencer to cover our Nation's 50th birthday, and after attending the media conference held 2 weeks ago, I've been waiting for this opportunity to share with you guys what's in store for us all this coming 9th of August.
The conference was opened by the Chairman of the NDP 2015 Executive Committee, Brigadier- General Melvyn Ong.
He shared about how this year's NDP is more special, because we will be paying special attention to all the pioneers that have carried Singapore on their shoulders and contributed to making what Singapore it is today.
This year's NDP will be celebrating how, in working together, we have progressed in such a relatively short span of 50 years, honour the efforts of those who have come before us, and to move forward to our next 50 years together.

The NDP 2015 show will recount our Singapore Story through a mix of nostalgic acts, and a personal favorite segment would be the re-enactment of the street parades in the 1970s all the way to the modern performances we see in our NDPs today.
I was very privileged to meet some of the performers for the National Day Parade that day and these were the uniforms they used to wear in the past!
We have the Police, Army, Airforce, Navy, PUB, POSB, People's Association, Singapore Girl etc. See if you can identify them!

This was how NDPs were like in the past, way before I was even born! I think it is gonna be really cool and exciting as we do a throwback on our nation's journey and it is definitely gonna be a nostalgic segment for our pioneer generations. An eye-opening on for the younger ones for sure!
We got to speak with a few of the volunteers and can you believe that these uncles are in their 70s? Some of them even took part in the parade they are gonna re-enact in the past. I found it really heart-warming to see the smiles on their faces and how they beamed with pride when Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong interviewed them on stage as they reminisced on how it was like in the earlier days.

This year, we will also be having a segment to remember the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, where a special film and performance by the Republic of Singapore Air Force's Black Knights will execute the "Five Stars" Tribute Aerial Flypast in honour of our founding Prime Minister.

The audience can look forward to viewing contingents formed by the Guards of Honor, SAF, SPF, SCDF , Uniform, Social and economic groups. On top of that, there will also a the Presidential Gun Salute, followed by a magnificent Aerial Display performed by the SAF's Black Knights showing a "50" formation fly-past . I bet it's gonna be another treat to the eyes!

Now remember I mentioned that this year's NDP will be greater than it has ever been?
If you are like myself, who LOVE fireworks, you will be glad to know that this year, we will be having 2 fireworks sites ! Which means double the amount of fireworks !! *throws confetti*

Last but not least, I got to listen to this year's NDP Theme song performed live by Dick Lee that day, it was such an honour to watch Mr Dick Lee's live performance and see him in person.
This year's theme song is titled "Our Singapore" a beautiful song written by Dick Lee himself. I thought the song was well-written - it reminds us to not take our present achievements for granted and that our pioneering spirit continues to be important.
I'll leave you guys to listen to it for yourselves!
Lastly, thank you Nuffnang and Churp Churp for this wonderful opportunity :')

I'm very proud to call myself a Singaporean and am very thankful to be able to call this country my home. I've said this umpteen times, I know, but I truly am so so proud and I couldn't sing enough praises of this little dot of a country to others when I was traveling all over Europe for half a year last year.
I hope you guys are as excited for this year's NDP as much as I am!

Love
Mong
